Baldissero Vini

It 1953 Guido Baldissero bought the vineyard in front of his house just outside the center of Treiso for one million, two hundred thousand Italian lire, as he considered it was "wonderfully exposed and ideal for a good wine”. Baldissero wine labels are dedicated to him and his vision and, since the bottle labels now proudly point to the plots of land, those with a keen eye will note that they are amongst the lines of vines from where the famous exclusive wines of Gaja are produced. The wine is now made by Guido’s nephew, and one of the areas finest winemakers, Marco Lo Russo.

Marco epitomises the new generation of expert wine makers, observing the customs of the great winemakers of the past, but innovating with the conditions of today treating each vine individually to shape it and nurture it to enhance the grape before it is carefully vinified to produce a range of wines that are expressive of the terroir and just as they should be.

To fully exploit the natural conditions Marco grows Nebbiolo in the upper parts to make the signature Barbaresco wine from this region, and Barbera and Dolcetto on the lower parts where it better suits the specific needs of these varietal wines. We stock all three of these and Marco is our selected grower that makes our NUMERO 07 - Barbaresco.

"wonderfully exposed and ideal for a good wine”

What Guido could see was that the south-eastern exposure of the plots benefit from the full strength of the sun but the mildest temperature of the morning sun so the grapes do not undergo the scorching sun of the south and west exposures. This has therefore become the perfect exposure for the maturation of the grapes and the development of balanced and fragrant wines.

After soft crushing and subsequent maceration on the skins for 20-35 days, our NUMERO 07 is racked to oak barrels and aged for 20-22 months.

The colour is garnet with flashes of orange, and on the nose it has notes of vanilla and red fruits like red cherry and cranberry, as well as sweet and spicy scents from the maturation in barrels. On the pallet it is velvety at first, followed by rich tannins and then an overall smooth and long finish.

Pairs well with roasted meat and game dishes, as well as aged and blue cheeses.
